OCONOMOWOC, WI – December 21, 2016. The Oconomowoc DECA Chapter gave back to more than 300 Milwaukee students during their annual “Adopt-a-School” service project.
2016 marks the 11th year for Oconomowoc High School DECA’s “Adopt-a-School” project. This year, the DECA Leadership Team selected Townsend Street Elementary School, an MPS school with an over 95% poverty rate. DECA students gathered wish lists from all 300 of the children, and OHS students and staff each “adopted” a student. OHS students and staff shopped for the gifts including hats, mittens, gloves, coats, school supplies, and toys. We are thankful for the generosity of our school community and for the opportunity to contribute in this way.
About 80 DECA members as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus delivered food and gifts to each classroom on Wednesday. They also took time to eat lunch with students and play outside at recess. This project not only helps children in need, but also helps OHS students create connections with young people and gain a new perspective during this meaningful event.
